Community Building:

Every person has a part. Every parent has a voice. We welcome you to get involved with these volunteer opportunities:

  • Room Parents – every classroom has a dedicated room parent; this person helps build community within the classroom, sends classroom communications, organizes volunteer opportunities, parties and more.

  • Buddy Program – a great way to encourage new families to become involved in our school; parents are paired with “buddies” to help transition into the new school year.

  • Boo-Hoo / Yahoo Breakfast – We know it’s hard to send your child to school for the first time!  After drop-off, please join us for complimentary snacks, along with smiles and shoulders to lean on, from other new Oscar Mayer parents.  Representatives from Friends of Mayer will also be there to answer your questions about the exciting journey that lies ahead for you and your child!

  • B&N Book Fair – an annual event where Mayer takes over Barnes and Noble at Webster Place (1441 W. Webster). Mayer students/parents will receive up to 25% on all purchases made (with the exception of gift cards). Proceeds from the fair are used to purchase new classroom materials and books from our teachers’ “wish lists”. There is also entertainment – music, art – all day.

  • Scholastic Book Fair - an annual event in the Mayer Library to restock our kids' home libraries and their teachers' classrooms. Parent volunteers help run it. including ringing up sales on the cash register and helping students pick out books, restocking shelves and straightening up between class visits. Two shifts available each day during the week of the sale, which is spring report card pickup.
