MAYER RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS WEEK
FEBRUARY 18 – 22, 2019
“Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.” – Maya Angelou
The Mayer Community will join the National Random Acts of Kindness Week (“RAKWeek”) movement the week of February 18 – 22, 2019.
Throughout RAK Week, Mayer students will participate in various activities to teach kindness and reinforce the values that kindness encompasses.
How can you participate? To be announced!
A sample of Mayer’s 2018 RAK week is as follows:
- BRING IN new travel/hotel sized toiletries through Tuesday, February 13th (shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream, etc.), which will be distributed to Chicago’s underserved residents through Care for Friends.*
- GIVE a book through Friday, February 16th to help build The Montessori School of Englewood’s classroom libraries. Like Mayer, this school runs from age 3 to 8th grade, but has far fewer resources. We are asking each Mayer family to give one book. Ideal books reflect the large African American student body with suggestions on The Montessori School of Englewood’s wish list. Wish list books can be shipped directly to Mayer. If you have gently used books at home those are also appreciated.*
- PLAY Kindness Bingo with your family! (Bingo card attached)
- DISCUSS at home the activities your students are participating in (see daily themes below) and the importance of kindness in all of our lives.
*Toiletries and books can be dropped off to the boxes at the main school entrance.
