Pledge Drive
Oscar Mayer Magnet, like all CPS schools, is continually affected by budget shortfalls and declining discretionary spending dollars. Hundreds of schools across our city were hit hard this year and Mayer was no exception. Sadly, our discretionary budget for the coming school year decreased by almost $100,000.
These discretionary funds pay for critical positions and materials. This year, approximately $385,000 in discretionary funds will pay for our six staff positions technology support services and instructional materials/supplies. The grim reality is we need to prepare for additional cuts each year. It is not unreasonable to think that at some point, we will receive no discretionary funds from CPS. In the near future, we could be responsible for raising the entire amount ourselves.
During the last school year, we raised more than $200,000 to help support our school - AMAZING! Although once again raising this amount of money certainly is a large task, it is not an insurmountable one. Here at Mayer, we are fortunately surrounded by incredibly vibrant, enthusiastic and committed families, teachers and staff.
We are once again requesting your participation in our Annual Pledge Drive. We ask that each family donate $1,200 per student – that's only $100 each month -- or whatever is the right amount for your family. More importantly, we are striving for 100% participation! We are pleased to let you know that the parent leaders from both the Friends of Mayer and Local School Council boards have already made their pledge commitments. Your family's financial commitment of any amount is greatly appreciated and helps us continue the stellar education of our children. Stay tuned for details on incentives for classes that reach participation milestones.
Each donation is fully tax-deductible and the entire amount is given directly to the school. Please make your pledge before October 21, checks can be made payable to Friends of Oscar Mayer School and brought to the main office with the donation form or by clicking below.
